Cantu’s single in the 11th beats Phils 3-2 (AP)

Philadelphia Phillies' Chris Coste walks away from the plate after Florida Marlins pitcher Doug Waechter struck him out with runners at second and third to end the top of the 11th inning of a baseball game Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Dolphin Stadium in Miami. The Marlins defeated the Phillies 3-2.

Savoring his game-winning single, Jorge Cantu rounded first base and kept going, trying to escape his jubilant Florida Marlins teammates. Scott Olsen caught him from behind with a headlock, Alfredo Amezaga leaped into Cantu’s arms, and others soon joined the fun. The Marlins are good at celebrating walk-off wins because they’ve had a lot of practice.

Philadelphia Phillies' Ryan Howard, right, walks back to the dugout after striking out on three pitches with the bases loaded during the ninth inning of a baseball game against the Florida Marlins, Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Dolphin Stadium in Miami. The Marlins defeated the Phillies 9-5. Marlins catcher John Baker, left rear, signals two outs.

The game brought to mind a Saturday beer league, with plenty of swinging from the heels by both the Florida Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies. Despite a four-run margin, the outcome was in doubt until the final pitch. The Marlins had a little more pop, hitting three homers to win 9-5 and tighten the race in the NL East.

Against junkballer Jamie Moyer, those home run swings the Florida Marlins like to take produced mostly feeble grounders and popups. Again.
