Sergio Mitre began his first spring training start with a four-pitch walk. He also walked the third batter he faced. Marlins hope to improve worst defense in majors (AP)
For the Florida Marlins, high hoppers to the pitcher were a problem last year. So were grounders to shortstop. And to third base. As were flyballs to right field. Pretty much any batted ball was a challenge for the Marlins, whose 137 errors were a team record and the most in the major leagues. Manager [...]

Florida Marlins’ 9th in good hands with closer Gregg (AP)
In the Florida Marlins’ clubhouse, closer Kevin Gregg stands out. Partly it’s because he’s 6-foot-6 and weighs 238 pounds. And then there’s the $2.5 million contract, which makes him the best-paid player for the National League’s most frugal franchise. “I laugh at it, but it’s cool,” Gregg says. “It’s the dynamics of this team.
