Giants trade Benitez to Marlins for Messenger (AP)
The San Francisco Giants traded struggling closer Armando Benitez to the Florida Marlins for reliever Randy Messenger on Thursday night. Benitez was not in the clubhouse after the Giants’ 4-2 loss and his locker was completely cleaned out. “Maybe Elvis has left the building,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

Brewers 4, Marlins 3 (AP)
Prince Fielder hit his league-leading 19th homer, J.J. Hardy drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Florida Marlins 4-3 on Thursday night. Corey Hart doubled with two outs in the eighth and Hardy followed with a single off Matt Lindstrom (0-2) for his team-leading 46th RBI.

Mitre leaves after being hit by throw (AP)
Florida Marlins pitcher Sergio Mitre left Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs with a cramp in his right hamstring. The Marlins were leading 3-0 when Cubs starter Ted Lilly hit Aaron Boone leading off the inning. Mitre then laid down a bunt, and Lilly bobbled the ball before rushing the throw toward first.

Marlins 5, Cubs 3 (AP)
Byung-Hyun Kim pitched six scoreless innings, Reggie Abercrombie homered and the Florida Marlins held on to beat the Chicago Cubs 5-3 on Monday. Josh Willingham had two hits and an RBI and Miguel Cabrera had three hits for the Marlins, who bounced back after getting swept by the New York Mets over the weekend.
