Willis’ wife gives birth to daughter (AP)
Florida Marlins left-hander Dontrelle Willis became a first-time father Tuesday evening when his wife, Natalee, gave birth to a 6-pound, 6-ounce girl. Adrianna Rose and her mother were doing fine, the team said. Willis was the winning pitcher Monday night against Atlanta, then headed to the hospital to join his wife.

Marlins 8, Braves 7 (AP)
Count on Dontrelle Willis for an unorthodox delivery. Awaiting the imminent birth of his first child, Willis went about his business Monday, pitching 6 2-3 innings and hitting a standup triple to help the Florida Marlins beat the Atlanta Braves 8-7. Willis (4-1) became the NL’s first four-game winner.

Marlins 12, Nationals 6 (AP)
Dan Uggla homered twice and drove in six runs, and Miguel Cabrera hit a drive into the upper deck to help the Florida Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 12-6 Sunday. Wes Obermueller earned his first major league victory in almost two years and Josh Willingham also homered for Florida. Uggla had three hits.

Marlins send Tyler back to Carolina, plan to call up Obermueller (AP)
The Florida Marlins optioned right-hander Scott Tyler to Double-A Carolina on Saturday night, two days after he was called up to the majors. The Marlins plan to recall right-hander Wes Obermueller from Triple-A Albuquerque to start against Washington on Sunday. Obermueller is 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA in three starts for the Isotopes.

Cabrera sits out with sore side (AP)
Florida Marlins slugger Miguel Cabrera was held out of the starting lineup Friday because of a sore right oblique, but he and manager Fredi Gonzalez said the injury didn’t appear serious. Cabrera, who skipped batting practice, said Gonzalez talked him out of trying to play. “I had to put my foot down,” Gonzalez said.
